About Barcelona

☆☆☆☆☆ "The best 90 minutes of theatre I have seen all year" — The i

"Lily Collins makes a sensational stage debut" — The Standard

"Álvaro Morte is magnificent" — Sunday Express

Lily Collins (Emily in Paris) and Álvaro Morte (Money Heist) make their West End debuts in the seductive thriller, Barcelona. Book Barcelona tickets on London Theatre.

Barcelona is a play by Bess Wohl (Small Mouth Sounds) that premiered in 2013 at The People's Light & Theatre in Pennsylvania. Since then, it's been staged at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, starring Betty Gilpin and Carlos Leal. As the Broadway World review said of the show, "I cannot remember when a play has touched me as strongly as the West Coast premiere of Barcelona by Bess Wohl." Now, the hit show makes its West End debut at Duke of York's Theatre.

The show set in Barcelona, tells the story of an American tourist, Irene (Lily Collins), going home with a Spaniard, Manuel (Álvaro Morte). What starts as a cliche one-night stand becomes much more than that as the play twists and turns through danger, personal discussion, and the unexpected.

As Lily Collins said in a statement, "It has been a childhood dream of mine to perform in the West End and I'm hugely excited to make my stage debut in Bess' exciting play, Barcelona. Working with this team has truly been a gift and I cannot wait for audiences to be taken on a thrilling journey as the play unravels. I knew the moment I finished reading the script, I had to play Irene."

Barcelona in London has an exceptional creative team led by director Lynette Linton (Shifters). Also included in the stellar creative team is Olivier Award-nominated costume designer Frankie Bradshaw (Blues for an Alabama Sky), lighting designer Jai Morjaria (My Son's A Queer (But What Can You Do?)), composition and sound designers Duramaney Kamara (Instructions for Correct Assembly) and Xana (The P Word), video designer Gino Ricardo Green (Tambo & Bones), and wigs, hair, and makeup designer Cynthia De La Rosa (Blues for an Alabama Sky and Beginning).
