About The Cabinet Minister

Arthur Wing Pinero’s classic farce, The Cabinet Minister, returns to the stage in an exciting new adaptation by Olivier Award-winning Nancy Carroll (After The Dance). Book The Cabinet Minister tickets on London Theatre.

The Cabinet Minister in London tells the comedic tale of Sir Julian Twombley; his wife and son accrue numerous debts, causing his political reputation to be in jeopardy. He seeks to keep his dignity as he dodges the numerous reporters intent on breaking the scandalous story.

The political satire was initially published in 1890 by Arthur Wing Pinero, an English playwright and actor known for his plays like The Magistrate, Dandy Dick and Sweet Lavender. The farce has stood the test of time and has been staged and adapted various times, including Michael Denison’s 1977 adaptation. Another staging of the show took place in 1987 at the Royal Exchange.

This latest adaptation by Nancy Carroll has a talented cast, including Nancy Carroll, who, in addition to adapting the play, is starring in the role of Lady Katherine. Nicholas Rowe (Young Sherlock Holmes, Motown the Musical) is starring in the role of Sir Julian Twombley. Also included in the cast are George Blagden, Joe Edgar, Phoebe Fildes, Rosalind Ford, Dom Hodson, Dillie Keane, Laurence Ubong Williams, Romaya Weaver, and Matthew Woodyatt.

The Cabinet Minister is a play that has an exceptional creative team, including director Paul Foster (Crazy For You) in his Menier directing debut, set and costume designer Janet Bird (Guys and Dolls), Olivier-nominated sound designer George Dennis (The Homecoming), Tony-winning composer and musical supervisor Sarah Travis (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street), and movement coach Joanna Goodwin (My Fair Lady).
