The beloved 1997 Disney film, Hercules, comes to the West End stage in an exciting musical adaptation. Book Hercules tickets on London Theatre.
This musical comedy tells the tale of Hercules, the son of Zeus and Hera, who grows up on Earth after Hades makes him mortal. However, Hercules is still left with super strength and spends his life feeling like he doesn’t belong. When he discovers that he is a demigod, he seeks to become a hero to return to Mount Olympus.
Hercules in London includes audience-favourite songs from the film, including Go The Distance, which was nominated for a 1998 Academy Award for Best Original Song. Other songs included are From Zero to Hero, and I Won’t Say I’m in Love.
This show has been years in the making. In 2017, Alan Menken announced he was working on the music for a stage version of Hercules. Since then, the production has been created by numerous talented individuals, including Olivier Award nominee Kwame Kwei-Armah and Tony Award winner Robert Horn, who wrote the musical book.
Hercules premiered Off-Broadway in 2019 at Delacorte Theater in Central Park, Manhattan, New York. It then ran at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey in 2023, and in 2024, the show opened in Hamburg, Germany.
Hercules is a musical directed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (Some Like It Hot, The Book of Mormon). This isn’t Nicholaw’s first time directing a Disney stage adaptation; he also directed the Broadway version of Aladdin.
As the Broadway World review said of the show’s staging in Hamburg, “Director Casey Nicholaw created a powerful, family-friendly show with energetic dance moves framed by a massive set design.”
