About The Purists

The critically acclaimed New York comedy, The Purists, has its highly anticipated European premiere at the Kiln Theatre. Book The Purists tickets on London Theatre.

The Purists is a play that premiered in 2019 at Huntington Theatre in Boston and it was directed by Tony and Emmy Award-winner, Billy Porter. The show earned the Elisabeth Osborn Award for Best Play and the Elliot Norton Award for Best Production.

This award-winning play tells the story of a DJ, a former rapper, and an older Broadway telesales director who have become an unlikely group of friends as they spend time together on their stoop in Queens. However, things change when a rap battle breaks out between two young women. What begins as a spar about hip-hop music starts to reveal the characters' fears and struggles. Over time, it becomes clear that these seemingly different people have a lot more in common than one may have thought.

As the Broadway World review said of the world premiere, “The Purists is a delightful and at times breathtaking new play that is anything but pure and simple.”

The Purists in London stars Jasper Britton (Habeas Corpus), Tiffany Gray (Between Riverside and Crazy), Emma Kingston (In The Heights), Richard Pepple (High Life), and Sule Rimi (Blues for an Alabama Sky).

The show also has an excellent creative team, including playwright Dan McCabe (Blame The Parents), director Amit Sharma (Pins and Needles), set designer Tom Piper (Hamnet), lighting designer Oliver Fenwick (Ulster American), sound designer Tony Gayle (Next To Normal), and costume designer Ruth Badila (1984).

As Emma Kingston told West End Best Friend, "It's always amazing to work on new productions and the playwright Dan McCabe is writing some new scenes for this version too so it really does feel fresh."
