Fiddler on the Roof in London tells the now classic story of a Jewish milkman, Tevye, and his five daughters living in the small village of Anatevka in 1905. Tevye seeks to hold onto his religious and cultural traditions and beliefs while outside influences impact the lives of his daughters.
The musical has a talented cast, including Adam Dannheisser (Oslo, Beetlejuice) as Tevye, Liv Andrusier (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Ride) as Tzeitel, Hannah Bristow (Jane Eyre) as Chava, Georgia Bruce (Wuthering Heights) as Hodel, and Olivier Award-winning Lara Pulver (Gypsy) as Golde.
This revival also boasts a stellar creative team including director Jordan Fein (Oklahoma!), choreographer Julia Cheng (Cabaret), Tony-winning designer Tom Scutt (Cabaret), lighting designer Aideen Malone (Charlie & Stan), and Olivier-winning sound designer Nick Lidster (Cabaret).
Fiddler on the Roof is a musical based on Sholem Aleichem’s collection of stories, Tevye and his Daughters (or Tevye the Dairyman), written between 1894 and 1914. The stories are based on Alceichem’s experiences growing up and tell the tales of Jewish life in a village at the turn of the 20th century.
The show, which was written by Joseph Stein, with music by Jerry Block and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, first opened on Broadway in 1964 and was an immediate smash hit. It earned nine Tony Awards and was the first musical in history to surpass 3,000 performances.
Fiddler on the Roof also inspired the 1971 film of the same name. The film was an immense success, becoming the highest-grossing film of 1971. It also earned three Academy Awards for Best Score Adaptation, Best Cinematography, and Best Sound.
