Rosie Day’s Instructions for a Teenage Armageddon deals with tough themes but is far from a misery fest. Book Instructions for a Teenage Armageddon tickets on London Theatre now.
Being a teenager is tumultuous at the best of times, but it’s especially difficult if you’ve been forced to grow up very quickly following the loss of a sister, and have been made to feel like an outcast among your peers. Day’s play, however, is imbued with a wicked sense of humour and plenty of Taylor Swift worship and Scout troupe misadventures.
The one-woman show is performed by Bridgerton’s Charithra Chandran (who played season two ingenue Edwina Sharma) in her West End debut. Chandran’s other screen credits include Sabrina Pleasance in TV series Alex Rider and the forthcoming film How to Date Billy Walsh.
Writer Rosie Day performed the show herself during previous runs at the Old Red Lion Theatre, Cirencester’s Barn Theatre, and the Southwark Playhouse. Day began her career as a child actor with roles at the National Theatre and the Royal Court before transitioning into adult roles. On screen, she is perhaps best known for playing Mary Hawkins in Outlander. The play was also the starting point for a self-help book of the same name edited by Day in 2021, containing advice for teenage girls from 30 notable women.
In its exploration of bereavement, eating disorders, sexual assault, and other sensitive issues, the play is a difficult but necessary watch. Book Instructions for a Teenage Armageddon tickets on London Theatre today.
