About The Picture of Dorian Gray

Oscar Wilde’s famed story gets a thrilling update in Kip Williams’ fresh production that stars TV icon Sarah Snook. Visit the Theatre Royal Haymarket in the West End and book The Picture of Dorian Gray tickets on London Theatre.

The Picture of Dorian Gray, a morality tale about the cost of beauty and sensual fulfilment, is one of Oscar Wilde’s most celebrated stories; now, Artistic Director of Sydney Theatre Company Kip Williams reimagines the book for the digital age. Williams uses dynamic staging, technology, and live video to turn The Picture of Dorian Gray into a one-person tour de force led by Sarah Snook.

“I am tired of myself tonight. I should like to be somebody else,” Dorian Gray says, discontent with his own personhood and image. Emmy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Sarah Snook takes on this famous role and returns to London theatre following her turn at The Old Vic in The Master Builder.

Star of Succession, The Dressmaker, and Pieces of a Woman, Sarah Snook takes on every role, amounting to dozens, in this gripping, witty, and vibrantly contemporary production that reinvents and reinvigorates a classic. Kip Williams’ groundbreaking production, The Picture of Dorian Gray delivers an explosive interplay of live performance and video in an astonishing collision of form.

Many productions of Kip Williams’ adaptation have won acclaim, and the production went on to be nominated for six Sydney Theatre Awards, winning Best Production. It also won the Green Room Award for Best Production and Best Director for Kip Williams.
