The most fashionable show in town is at the Menier Chocolate Factory, telling the incredible life story of Twiggy. She became the face of the 60s as a young model and went on to conquer Hollywood and Broadway too. Get the full picture: book your Close-Up – The Twiggy Musical tickets on London Theatre now.
Lesley Hornby, aka Twiggy, was born to working-class parents in Neasden, in north-west London. As a skinny teenager, she was worlds away from the more curvaceous (and posh) models of the day. However, after she got a new cropped haircut from celebrity hairdresser Leonard, a journalist discovered her – and an icon was born.
Ben Elton, a good friend of Twiggy’s, writes and directs Close-Up – The Twiggy Musical. The musical is Twiggy taking charge of her story as we learn that she was passionate about fashion long before her “discovery”, designing and making her own clothes.
Close-Up – The Twiggy Musical features a toe-tapping pop score, using songs of the era to illustrate Twiggy’s experience and set the scene for the action. Add in fabulous period outfits, and it’s one groovy production.
Ben Elton is known for writing the book for the smash-hit Queen musical We Will Rock You, and even appeared in the show earlier this year. He also collaborated with Andrew Lloyd Webber on Love Never Dies and The Beautiful Game*.
Starring as Twiggy is Elena Skye, who previously played Scaramouche in Elton’s We Will Rock You. Watch her strut her stuff in the world premiere of this new musical and book Close-Up – The Twiggy Musical tickets on London Theatre today.
