Comedian and storyteller Mike Birbiglia heads to the West End for four weeks only with his latest one-man show, following sold-out performances across the U.S. Book The Old Man and the Pool tickets on London Theatre now.
Straight from the Broadway stage, The Old Man and the Pool in the West End is a captivating production. Described as a "coming-of-middle-age story," The Old Man and the Pool takes the audience on a journey through Birbiglia’s past, as he shares amusing tales peppered with flashbacks and clever one-liners.
When a doctor confronts Birbiglia with the news that he inherited his family’s cardiac issues, they recommend Birbiglia adopt a healthier lifestyle. However, he adamantly refuses, particularly when it comes to swimming, driven by vivid memories of an unforgettably smelly Massachusetts YMCA pool from his youth.
While this comedy show primarily delights with its humorous anecdotes, it also offers subtle moments of contemplation on life, morality, and the intricacies that lie in between. Through his infamous comic storytelling, Birbiglia reminds us all that laughter truly is the best medicine.
A four-star review of The Old Man and the Pool on New York Theatre Guide reads, “Watching comedian Mike Birbiglia on stage is always a blast. It’s like reconnecting with an old friend, albeit one with infinite issues and a habit of taking the roundabout route to get to the point.”
Mike Birbiglia is a highly acclaimed comedian, director, actor, and master storyteller renowned for his captivating stage and screen performances. With a range of one-man shows under his belt, such as Sleepwalk with Me, My Girlfriend's Boyfriend, Thank God For Jokes, and The New One, Birbiglia has achieved tremendous success both on and off Broadway.
