Can technology change the way we live forever? Explore what it means to be human when artificial intelligence begins to take over.
The Marjorie Prime play raises thought-provoking questions about how humans choose to remember their greatest memories, as well as those they'd rather forget. As an elderly woman recollects her life, she can decide what she remembers, and in turn what she doesn’t want to exist anymore.
Jordan Harrison's play received a Pulitzer Prize nomination — now Marjorie Prime London performances take place at the Menier Chocolate Factory. The BAFTA-nominated actress Anne Reid plays Marjorie, joined by Nancy Carroll, Richard Fleeshman, and Tony Jayawardena.
When Marjorie Prime premiered in New York, a New York Theatre Guide critic said: “playwright Jordan Harrison explores the haunting question of what might happen if memory persists with loss removed from the equation. No home is complete without lifetime companions who keep the old days alive and compensate for the bothersome realities of death.”
In an age of artificial intelligence, 85-year-old Marjorie recalls her memories to a new companion. Except her new companion isn’t a human, it’s AI. To help cope with her memory loss, Marjorie’s family confronts their pasts, inevitably causing family rifts and a growing reliance on technology over real events. Marjorie Prime explores the intersection of technology and humanity in society.
