Julius Caesar is at Shakespeare’s Globe in summer 2022 as part of the 25th anniversary season. Julius Caesar tickets are available on London Theatre now.
Julius Caesar ruled over the Roman Empire for two years, but his legacy on the course of Roman history, and how we view dictators, is considerable. So much so, nearly 1600 years after Caesar ruled Rome, William Shakespeare wrote a history play all about the Roman dictator’s life.
The Julius Caesar play hones in on Cassius and Brutus, two Roman politicians who conspire against their leader in the hopes of starting a new life. They believe Caesar poses a threat to their country and indeed the world, so there’s only one way to get rid of him — assassination.
Shakespeare wrote Julius Caesar in 1599, but the play’s rhetoric holds a stark relevance to how a general public views ruling parties. Diane Page directs Julius Caesar in London for a modern-day audience, bringing a sense of revolution and cunning to the play. But when you watch Julius Caesar on stage, you’ll realise just how similar Ancient Rome and 21st-century Britain are.
Julius Caesar is part of Shakespeare’s Globe 25th anniversary season. The season includes Much Ado About Nothing, Henry VIII, King Lear, The Tempest and Joan, a new play about Joan of Arc.
