Dirty Dancing will go down in history as one of the greatest musical films of all time. But the initial idea came from cut scenes in a previous film. Writer Eleanor Bergstein was inspired to create Dirty Dancing after her previous film — It's My Turn — had erotic scenes cut in production. Thankfully, there’s plenty of sizzling action throughout Dirty Dancing the musical, including the watermelon scene and that lift.

Set in the summer of 1963, 17-year-old Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman heads on a family holiday to New York’s Catskill Mountains. She’s unenthused by the resort activities on offer, but her interest is piqued when she lays eyes on Johnny Castle, the resort dance instructor. Swept up in a holiday romance, Frances and Johnny fall for one another, culminating in the best summer of their lives.
