There’s winners and losers in every criminal case. But when it’s a shocking trial that could impact your future career, can one case change your life forever? In Prima Facie, one barrister navigates a whirlwind of emotions and tries to stay at the top. Prima Facie tickets will be available on London Theatre soon.
The Prima Facie play is a one-woman play that follows Tessa. After qualifying as a barrister, her winning streak has seen her work her way up to the top of her game. But climbing to the higher rungs of the ladder takes more than dedication. It’s also about staying true to yourself. So when one event forces Tessa to confront her values, her morals are torn.
Prima Facie is a two-word Latin phrase which translates to “at first sight” or “based on first impressions.” The Prima Facie play definitely made a great first impression too; Suzie Miller’s play won the 2019 Australian Writers’ Guild Award for Drama. The Australian/British playwright was mentored by the Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? playwright Edward Albee in the early stages of her career, so it’s no surprise that she’s making waves with *Prima Facie. *
Prima Facie London performances will aim to confront the inherent patriarchal power of the judicial system, through the eyes of one barrister. Killing Eve star Jodie Comer is tasked with the challenge of playing Tessa, making her West End debut in the role. She’s joined by an exciting creative team, including direction by Justin Martin, lighting by Natasha Chivers and scenic and costume design by Miriam Buether.
