Carrie Hope Fletcher stars in a brand-new version of Cinderella with a score by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Cinderella tickets are available on London Theatre now.
The revisionist take on the classic fairytale reimagines Cinderella as a punk princess. She has been cast out by her family and her town, and she and her prince cannot publicly admit their feelings for each other. Though Cinderella does make it to the ball, it's not a smooth pumpkin carriage ride — she contends with the male gaze and beauty standards along the way.
Carrie Hope Fletcher is best known for her musical stage performances in Les Misérables as Fantine and Éponine, which she returned to in 2019 to appear in the all-star concert before returning to the full West End production at the Sondheim Theatre. Fletcher also originated the role of Veronica Sawyer in Heathers the Musical in London.
The Cinderella musical features an original book by the Academy Award-winning screenwriter Emerald Fennell. As well as writing Promising Young Woman, which won her an Academy Award, Fennell’s credits include leading the script of season two of BBC's Killing Eve, as well as appearing on screen in Netflix's The Crown, playing Camilla Parker Bowles.
Cinderella also features a new score by Lloyd Webber and lyrics by David Zippel. It will be the second time the English composer has partnered with American lyricist — whose other musical work includes City of Angels and Disney's Hercules — since The Woman in White in 2004.
Laurence Connor directs the Cinderella musical, with choreography by JoAnn Hunter, reuniting the creatives after they worked together on Lloyd Webber's musicals School of Rock and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Connor's other musical work includes Chess and Miss Saigon in the West End.
