About Much Ado About Nothing

Katherine Parkinson and John Heffernan play Beatrice and Benedick in an Italian Riviera-themed Much Ado About Nothing at the National Theatre. Much Ado About Nothing tickets are available on London Theatre now.

The Much Ado About Nothing play will follow the expected stories of gender, love, romance and confused identities. But rather than placing it in a Shakespearean era, Simon Godwin directs a Much Ado About Nothing newly set in the Italian riviera.

Set in 1930s Europe, this production centres around the Hotel Messina, a lavish, upmarket destination visited by artists and royalty. But as wedding bells ring, will all the guests be in the mood for love?

There’s two Much Ado About Nothing London plays this summer. Down the road at Shakespeare’s Globe, Lucy Bailey directs Much Ado About Nothing set a few years later in World War Two. But if you’re seeing the Shakespeare play at the National, expect a continental European flair. Check out all the Shakespeare plays in London.

The Olivier-nominated Katherine Parkinson stars as Beatrice. Previously, Parkinson’s National Theatre credits include Home, I’m Darling, which later transferred to the West End. She’s joined by John Heffernan as Benedick, Eben Figueiredo as Claudio, Ioanna Kimbook as Hero, and Ashley Zhangazha as Don Pedro.

Much Ado About Nothing marks Simon Godwin’s second Shakespeare play at the National. He previously directed a 2017 production of Twelfth Night starring Tamsin Greig.
