A brand new stage adaptation of the classic 1950s film The Man in the White Suit is now open in London, with this new play, adapted and directed by Sean Foley, receiving its world premiere at the Wyndham's Theatre in September 2019. Tickets for the play are now on sale.
Stephen Mangan stars in the play as textile worker Sidney Stratton, who discovers a revolutionary new material that is resistant to dirt or damage from wear. He makes a luminous suit out of the fabric, but factory owners and bigwigs are quick to try and suppress his invention for fear it will impact their businesses. Kara Tointon plays the role of Daphne Birnley in the show.
The Man in the White Suit runs at the Wyndham's Theatre until 7th December 2020, with tickets now on sale.
Written by John Dighton, Roger MacDougall, and director Alexander Mackendrick, the film was produced by the great classic film studio Ealing Studios, and was nominated for the best screenplay Oscar. The film starred Alex Guinness, Joan Greenwood, and Cecil Parker. You can watch the trailer of the film below.
Stephen Mangan returns to the stage after his last appearance in Harold Pinter's play The Birthday Party, which ran at The Harold Pinter Theatre in 2018. His other stage performances include his Tony Award-nominated role in Alan Ayckbourn's The Norman Conquests, which opened at the Old Vic before transferring to Broadway.
He has also appeared in Joe Penhall's play Birthday, the best comedy Olivier Award-winning Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense, and Hay Fever at the Savoy.
Away from the stage, Mangan is known for appearing in the Channel 4 comedy series Green Wing alongside Tamsin Greig, who he then starred alongside with Matt LeBlanc in Episodes. He also provided the voice of the title character in the 2014 Postman Pat film.
Kara Tointon has recently appeared on stage as Olivia in Twelfth Night for the RSC, Bella Manningham in a UK touring production of Gaslight, and returns to the Wyndham's Theatre after she appeared in Relatively Speaking there.
Her other West End credits include playing Evelyn in Absent Friends at the Harold Pinter Theatre, and Eliza in Pygmalion at the Garrick.
