Ian Rickson directs a new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's Rosmersholm, starring Tom Burke and Hayley Atwell which runs at the Duke of York's Theatre until 19th July 2019. Tickets for Rosmersholm are available now.
First written in 1886, Rosmersholm is considered one of Ibsen's masterpieces. It centres around Johannes Rosmer and his free-spirited housekeeper, Rebecca West, who are both haunted by the spirit of Rosmer's wife, who committed one year before the play begins. This new version of the play by Duncan Macmillan sees an election looming, with John Rosmer faced with a choice between conservative traditions, or a new freedom.
Rosmersholm runs at the Duke of York's Theatre until 19th July, with tickets available now.
Tom Burke is possibly best-known for his leading role in the BBC series The Musketeers. His work onstage includes the 2012 National Theatre production of The Doctor's Dilemma, The Cut alongside Ian McKellen, and Creditors at the Donmar Warehouse in 2008. Rickson's godfather Alan Rickman directed the latter, which earned Ian Rickson an Ian Charleson Award.
Hayley Atwell is known for her performances in productions such as A View From the Bridge, Dry Powder and Measure for Measure. On screen, she has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Peggy Carter, and the live-action Disney remake of Cinderella.
Duncan Macmillan's previous work includes co-adapting/directing 1984 with Robert Icke, which was also produced by Sonia Friedman, and the play People, Places and Things, which enjoyed success in London and New York.
Rosmersholm is at the Duke of York's Theatre until 19th July.
