About Waitress

Featuring an original score by acclaimed singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles the musical is based on the motion picture of the same name written by Adrienne Shelley. After opening on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on 24 April 2016, the uplifting musical has impressed audiences in America and is received its London premiere in March 2019.

Waitress the Musical began previews in London at the Adelphi from 8th February 2019, with an official opening night on 6th March 2019.

Waitress tells the story of Jenna Hunterson, a waitress who is in an unhappy marriage to her husband Earl. When she unexpectedly discovers she is pregnant, she starts an affair with her gynaecologist and begins to look for ways out of her abusive relationship, embracing her unique pie-making skills as a chance for a new life.

Waitress tickets for the London production of the musical are on sale now.

The musical premiered at the American Repertory Theater (ART) in Cambridge, Massachusetts in summer 2015. Featuring direction by Diane Paulus and choreography by Chase Brock, the production starred Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller who led the cast at the Broadway opening. The production opened on Broadway in March 2016 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, where it is currently running.

Based on the 2007 indie film Waitress which was written and directed by Adrienne Shelly, the stage rights for the show were purchased shortly after its release. Five-time Grammy Award nominee Sara Bareilles released a studio album called What's Inside: Songs from Waitress, featuring music from the show which debuted at number 10 on the US Billboard 200. The musical features an original score of songs by Bareilles, written in her light country-rock style performed each evening by a live on-stage band.

Waitress was nominated for four Tony Awards including Best Original Score, Best Musical and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for Jessie Mueller. The production began its first US National tour in October 2018.
