About Ohio

For the first time, the soulful new musical, Ohio, graces the London stage, playing at the Young Vic Theatre this autumn. Ohio is an intimate story of faith, love, loss, and the opportunity to embrace joy. Book Ohio tickets on London Theatre.

What happens when we die? That question was posed to Abigail and Shaun Bengson, the creators of this spectacular musical, by their young son, which sparked the idea for Ohio—a deeply personal and rousing new musical experience. Known for their poignant indie-folk harmonies and incredible storytelling, the Bengsons turned life's hardest question into a celebration through song.

When Shaun left the Lutheran church where he was raised, he found a home instead in music. Now, faced with acute degenerative hearing loss, Shaun and Abigail confront the devastating reality of what it means to lose the very thing that has defined their lives. What results is a 'death concert' that is less about the existential ideas of the afterlife and more so about choosing happiness in the here and now, even in the face of uncertainty.

Ohio is a musical that originally premiered at the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, finding widespread acclaim. Directed by Caitlin Sullivan, Ohio is brought to London in a show that blends spiritual meditation and live musical performance into an evening that promises to be both greatly entertaining and radically honest.

With captioning being creatively woven into the performance, BSL-interpreted performances are available, as Ohio in London is specifically designed to welcome every individual. This musical is also produced by Francesca Moody, best known for her work on Fleabag and Baby Reindeer.

This smashing performance is a deeply moving reminder that while the grief of loss is inevitable in this life, one can always choose joy.
