About The Baker's Wife

Be transported to a 1935 provincial French village in the cult classic musical, The Baker's Wife, by Stephen Schwartz (Godspell, Wicked) and Joseph Stein (Fiddler On The Roof). Book The Baker's Wife tickets on London Theatre.

The Baker's Wife in London stars WhatsOnStage award-winning actress Lucie Jones (Wicked, Waitress) as Genevieve and Olivier award-winning actor Clive Rowe (Sister Act, Guys and Dolls) as Aimable. Also included in the talented cast are Josefina Gabrielle (Oklahoma!) as Denise, Mark Extance (Don Juan in Soho) as The Teacher, Jack Gardner (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) as Philippe, Michael Matus (King Lear) as the Marquis, and Robyn Rose (Tammy Faye) as Niece.

Together, the stellar cast tells the tale of a rural French village in disarray after not having a baker for seven weeks. When a new baker and his young wife come to town, the problem seems to finally be solved until the baker's wife is lured away by a handsome young man, causing the baker to stop working. The villagers must work together to bring the baker and his wife back together.

The Baker's Wife is a musical based on Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono's 1938 film, La Femme du Boulanger. The show opened in the West End in 1989 for a 56-show run, earning an Olivier Award nomination for Musical of the Year. The musical has since been staged a variety of times, but this is the first major UK revival since its West End premiere.

This musical has an extraordinary creative team, including director Gordon Greenberg (Guys and Dolls, Barnum), Olivier-winning choreographer Matt Cole (Newsies), Olivier-nominated designer Paul Farnsworth (Passion), and Olivier-nominated lighting designer Paul Anderson (The Master and Margarita).
